Ihave done over 10 40 day fasts. Just dont make a big deal out of it and do some research on how fasting works IF you have a need to explain to others what you are doing. The metabolism slowing is just a fact of any form of fasting. Thats just how the system works when in fasting/reserve mode. You can minimize this by remaining active and exercising during the fast. You will need to step up your exercise post fast to help bring back the metabolism back to normal. The need for protein is highly exagerated.
